Illinois Reading First

The goal of Illinois Reading First is to enhance knowledge of effective instructional practices that promote early reading success. Some researchers have proposed that there is a 90% chance that a child who has reading problems at the end of first grade will continue to struggle with reading at the end of fourth grade. Research indicates that early intervention is the key to preventing later reading difficulties.

In this online, self-paced course, you will have four month’s access to examine ways to help children in grades K-3 acquire the knowledge, skills, and experiences they must have to achieve levels of literacy that will enable them to be successful through their school careers and beyond. The K-1st Grade course is worth 30 CPDUs and the 2nd-3rd Grade course is worth 24 CPDU’s and are FREE of charge (until allotted subscriptions are used).

For more information on the Illinois Reading First online course and Illinois Virtual School, please visit the IVS website at http://ilvirtual.org, and then click Educators under Professional Development in the green banner.
