Substitute Teaching Certification
RETURNING SUBSTITUTES
If you were on the substitute teacher list for the2010/2011 school year, you are required to have a current sub sign up form for the 2011/2012 school year on file. Two formats of the form are provided below. Return completed form to my attention.
Lee/Ogle Returning Substitute Sign Up (Word Format)-OR Lee/Ogle Returning Substitute Sign Up (PDF Form)- complete, and mail in with $10 fee.
You can confirm your substitute status in your ECS account in the Current Credentials Window. You will not receive an automatic confirmation that your status has been updated.
FIRST TIME SUBSTITUTE REQUIREMENTS
A substitute teacher must possess a valid Illinois teaching or substitute teaching certificate registered with Lee/Ogle R.O.E. In order to obtain a substitute teaching certificate, applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning, submit the required application and fees, and meet all other statutory requirements. Applicants who are interested in obtaining a substitute teaching certificate should complete requirements A through E and make an appointment with their Regional Office of Education.
Applicants with a current valid Illinois teaching certificate should complete requirements C, D& E and make an appointment with their Regional Office of Education. If you have been fingerprinted for the purpose of substitute teaching through another R.O.E. you may request that they share the results with Lee/Ogle within 90 days. Appointments are recommended.
- ISBE Application Form 73-03C (Application for Teaching Certificate);
- $75 application fee and $50 registration fee (Once issued, the substitute certificate requires a $50 registration fee per region.
- Certificate registration with Lee/Ogle R.O.E. (complete form or through ECS) and a copy of your valid substitute or valid Illinois teaching certificate (Type 03,04,09 or 10).
- Official transcripts with a bachelor’s degree posted. To be official, transcripts must be submitted in the sealed envelope from the college or university or be sent directly by the institution Transcripts received that are not in a sealed envelope from the university or sent directly from the university will be considered unofficial and cannot be used for evaluation purposes. - Statutory Requirements:
- Physical Exam- within past 90 days
- TB Test Results- within the past 90 days
- I-9 Employment Eligibility Form and supporting identification documentation
- DCFS Mandated Reporter Form
- Lee/Ogle New Substitute Sign Up Form- PDF Format OR Lee/Ogle New Substitute Sign Up Form - Word Format
- Criminal Background Check - Fingerprinting is completed by appointment only at the R.O.E.when all of the above requirements have been satisfied.
NOTE: As of August 26, 2011 substitute candidates are responsible to pay fingerprinting costs of $75.00. This fee is in addition to application, registration and any R.O.E. administrative fees.
• A Substitute certificate holder may teach unlimited days in a school district, but not longer than 90 days for one teacher in a district.
• Non-retired teachers holding a valid Illinois teaching certificate may teach unlimited days in a school district, only in place of a certified teacher under contract, not to exceed 120 days for one teacher;
