Certification Information

Educator Certification

Attention: As of July 1, 2013 all educator certificates will be exchanged for Professional Educator Licenses (PEL). These will be managed in a system similar to the current ECS (Educator Certification System) but will have several updated features and will be called the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS). This system will not be launched until June 2013. As of March 15, 2013, we are recommending the following actions:

1. All educators whose standard certificate is due for renewal this year should renew BEFORE June 1st.

2. All educators whose initial certificate is due for renewal, but 4 years of teaching experience has not yet been earned, should renew BEFORE June 1st

3. All educators who have earned 4 years of experience on an initial certificate should WAIT and receive the new license, thus avoiding the $75 application fee. You will be given a full license on July 1, 2013 WITHOUT having to apply for it.

4. All educators should print the information in their ECS account as a precaution.
