Certificate Renewal Tutorial

Initial to Standard Certificate Renewal Timeline and Checklist

The Regional Office of Education is responsible for the processing of teacher certification to the Illinois State Board of Education. Certificate registration, applications for state certificates and endorsements are processed through Regional Offices. If you have questions or wish to submit certification documents, and are employed or are not currently employed but live in Lee or Ogle County please contact the Lee/Ogle R.O.E. Certification Department (815-652-2054).  If you are employed in a school district located outside of Lee or Ogle County or if you are not currently employed and live outside of Lee or Ogle county, contact the Regional Office (http://www.iarss.org/directory.html) that serves the county where you live. Educators who no longer live in Illinois register or apply through the Regional Office that last registered their certificates.

Upon direction from ISBE, the Lee/Ogle R.O.E. no longer signs or stamps the backs of certificates and you will not receive a new certificate. All certification information is now recorded in the Educator Certification System (ECS). ECS will always have the most current certificate information for every educator in Illinois. It is recommended that you print two copies of your ECS "Current Credentials"; one copy for your personal records and one copy for your District Personnel file.
